GARFIELD

Handsome and Affectionate

Garfield, age 7, came into our care from Old Trafford, arriving alongside his friend, Grandad, and from the very beginning it was clear this boy had been through a lot.

For quite some time, Garfield suffered terribly with a very sore eye. We carried out extensive investigations to get to the bottom of it. He tested positive for FIV while herpes and calicivirus thankfully came back negative. After weeks of testing, we finally found the cause… mycoplasma.

This blood-borne parasite, often spread through bites or mating, had taken hold and was affecting his nasal passages, ears, and eye. Poor Garfield had clearly had a tough life on the streets before coming into care.

The good news is… after two full courses of doxycycline, Garfield has beaten it

He is now healthy, thriving, and in fantastic condition. The only little reminder of what he’s been through is a slightly watery eye, which just needs a gentle wipe each day something so small compared to where he started.

And his personality? Absolutely beautiful.

Garfield adores food (of course ), but more than anything, he loves people. He will happily sit on your lap for hours (make sure you've got room, he's a big lad!), soaking up every bit of love and attention you can give. He is such a gentle, affectionate soul.

Sadly, shelter life isn’t suiting him, and we are desperately hoping to find him a home where he can truly relax and feel safe.

 Garfield’s ideal home:

  • Preferably as the only cat

  • Or with a calm female cat (he just likes being top boy!)

  • No dogs — they’re not really his thing

  • Someone happy to give his eye a quick daily clean

  • Someone who will help him to keep on top of his long coat with some brushing

  • An indoor only home due to his FIV or a home with some enclosed outdoor access such as a catio or a pet-proofed yard

Garfield has come so far, and now all he needs is someone to give him the love he’s always deserved.
